Over 41,500

new homes needed by 2028

Housing opportunities

There are significant opportunities for developers of residential accommodation in Huddersfield and the surrounding area.

The Office for National Statistics (2006) projects an additional 41,600 households in the area by 2028, establishing the need for further housing.

Our own assessment indicates that an additional 1500 affordable homes are required each year in the district in order to meet the needs of those who are finding it difficult to buy or rent at market existing levels.

In terms of land supply, there are currently permissions for 9,500 dwellings (although around 2000 of these permissions may have expired), leaving capacity for a further 3,500 dwellings.

Huddersfield forms part of the Kirklees district, you can find comprehensive information about housing need and supply as well as sites can be found in Kirklees Council's Housing Land Supply Review. Click here to download the latest version of this document.
