Further openings for Spindlegate

A new 62-bed Travelodge and one of the UK's first drive-thru Costa Coffee shops have opened in Huddersfield on the Spindlegate development.

Delivered by GMI Construction and Rex Procter & Partners, the Travelodge and Costa outlet are the latest openings in one of the town’s most popular mixed-use developments. They join a Marston’s pub The Yorkshire Rose, opened in October 2010.

James Poskitt, managing director of the GMI Property Company, said: "The development was a fantastic achievement, with the construction of the Travelodge completed in record time - 27 weeks from starting on site to completion.

"The hotel was trading two days after completion which is testament to the quality of the finishes.”

Andrew Cooper, managing director of Rex Procter & Partners, said: "Both schemes involved a close working relationship to achieve completion on programme and on budget whilst satisfying the quality demands of the hotel brands.”

The hotel was built in response to a demand for additional hotel accommodation in Huddersfield and contributes to the regeneration of the Leeds Road corridor, a main gateway into Huddersfield.

Jarrod Best, managing director of GMI Construction said “It is great to be a part of the project team that has delivered this modern hotel facility into Yorkshire, as the Kirklees region as a whole benefits from the regeneration going forward into the future. GMI are playing an active part in this redevelopment as work on a new Engineering Centre is also well underway for Kirklees College not far from the Travelodge on St Andrews Road.”

The schemes also provided an opportunity to learn ‘on the job’ for the two students employed through the ‘Building for the Future’ scheme with the companies.

Opportunities are still available at Spindlegate, for more details please click here.
