Huddersfield firms win top 3 places in 2012 Business of the Year Awards
Demonstrating that Huddersfield truly is the place to make it; three local firms have been given winning places in this year’s Eaton Smith Business of the Year Awards.
Equi Trek Ltd were named as the 2012 Business of the Year at the ceremony on 6th July. Equi-Trek is a family run company, founded in 1999 with the aim of providing the ultimate in horse transport.
The business has grown considerably since its inception, developing from a small manufacturer of side-loading horse trailers, introducing 3.5 tonne motorised horseboxes in the mid-2000’s and introducing new and larger horseboxes each year, culminating in the 26 tonne Enterprise in 2010, able to carry up to nine horses. They supply horseboxes and trailers to many top professional riders, including John and Michael Whitaker, Oliver Townend and Robert Smith and have firm roots in the local economy, using small local businesses for skilled labour and sourcing a third of their supplies within the West Yorkshire area.
Despite the awards cover Kirklees, Calderdale and Wakefield – the second and third places in the awards were also given to Huddersfield companies. Second place went to Novaglaze Gardner and Newton, who started bending glass in 1836. Over the past few years NGN has establish itself as a leading provider across the Region and nationally, they recently supplied new curved glazing panels for the famous London Eye.
Third place was given to Wellhouse Leisure, who specialise in manufacturing motorhomes and camper vans. Following a recent deal with Hyundia, they now design and build vehicles on Hyundai chassis from scratch.
Sponsored by Eaton Smith and held in association with the Mid-Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce and UKTI, the awards have been won by a diverse range of companies since they were established in 1995.
