Financial and business services
While traditional textile and manufacturing organisations have a strong presence in the region, finance and business services today account for 25% of businesses.
The region’s strategic location, close to the major financial centres in the north, has attracted leading organisations.
With lower commercial rates and reduced labour costs, yet still enjoying the proximity and excellent transport links to key cities, the area is becoming a strategic location for the financial and business services industry.
While some of the biggest names in financial services are using Huddersfield as a vital secondary location for disaster planning, many are recognising the benefits of relocating their head office to the region.
Britannia Rescue is one of the top breakdown recovery businesses in the UK, choosing Huddersfield as the home for both its head office and breakdown call centre. Britannia is so happy with its home that it has encouraged associated firm LV= to relocate from Liverpool to Folly Hall Mills, a new development just outside the town centre.
The country’s largest fleet performance improvement company, FMG Support, was also established in Huddersfield, and is curently expanding its operations in the town centre.
