30/04/2013 - Future of Huddersfield’s famous rugby hotel secured

Huddersfield’s most historic hotel, famous for being the birthplace of rugby league over 100 years ago, is to undergo significant refurbishment.

About the area

Anyone with a love of the outdoors will be in their element here; the Pennine Way cuts through the region, providing enjoyment for ramblers, hikers and outdoor sports enthusiasts, alike.

But if you prefer the arts, you won't be disappointed. The birthplace of famous artists, authors, musicians and actors, the region has a rich cultural heritage. Throughout the year, towns and neighbouring villages come alive with an eclectic mix of plays, music and festivals.

While the region is steeped in history, there is also a contemporary feel to the area. New developments are transforming Huddersfield, providing highly desirable waterfront living, working and leisure space.

Despite (or perhaps because of) the region’s industrial heritage, conservation and sustainability are high on the agenda here. Yorkshire & Humber is the only UK region with an agreed goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2016.
