Schools and education
The area has a choice of excellent state schools, many achieving high results in Ofsted inspections.
The level of pupils in the region achieving the expected academic level or above is in line with the UK average and several schools and colleges in the area achieve outstanding results every year without fail.

There are also a number of established and renowned independent schools within the area.
Studio School
Huddersfield boasts one of the UK’s first Studio Schools - the Creative & Media Studio School. The School is a pioneering development to bring together education, business and entrepreneurial skills to provide new opportunities for young people aged 14 to 19. Students will work alongside creative businesses on real projects that are integrated into the syllabus and coursework.The School is now accepting applications for September 2011 from current Year 11 pupils who feel they would benefit from this different way of learning.
Higher and Further Education
The UK’s top performing Sixth Form, Greenhead College, is located in Huddersfield, as well as Kirklees College and a number of others with excellent reputations. Due to open in Huddersfield in 2012 is one of the UK's first creative and media studio schools, where students will work directly with local businesses to develop practical skills and gain credible experience.
With around 24,500 students, the University of Huddersfield has an international reputation for history, music, social work, engineering and chemistry. The University’s Centre for Precision Technologies is widely regarded as the best in the UK and one of the top three in Europe.
